Advanced Placement Program Information

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Through more than 30 college-level courses, each culminating in a rigorous exam, AP provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both. Taking AP courses also demonstrates to college admission officers that students have sought the most rigorous curriculum available to them. Each AP teacher’s syllabus is evaluated and approved by college faculty from some of the nation’s leading institutions, and AP Exams are developed and scored by college faculty and experienced AP teachers. AP is accepted by more than 3,800 colleges and universities worldwide for college credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of successful AP Exam scores (3 or better). This includes over 90 percent of four-year institutions in the United States. For further information visit the College Board’s website at:

In the 2016-17 school year, the following AP courses are offered at Tesoro High School:  AP Language/Composition, AP Literature and Composition, AP American History, AP American Government/Economics, AP European History, AP Chinese V, AP French IV, AP German IV, AP Spanish IV, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus A/B, AP Calculus B/C, AP Statistics,  AP Computer Sci A, AP Psychology, AP Art History,  and AP Music Theory.

Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Tesoro High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.

For the 2018 AP exams, students at Tesoro High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.  Make sure your registration information is complete and accurate as this information will be printed on your AP exam answer documents and cannot be altered.
