Hello Tesoro students, faculty, and administration,

Having recently partnered with Jaden Smith's company JUST water bottles, the Tesoro Conservation Club is working to replace all plastic bottles sold in the lunchroom with sustainable, bio-based plastics!

This week of January 22nd, CUSD is running a pilot program at Tesoro to judge how well the bottles sell. If JUST bottles sell well, then they will replace oil-based plastics throughout CUSD.

The light-blue JUST bottles are being sold for $1.25 each in the cafeteria. A final price (likely lower) is being negotiated.

Try JUST bottles this week to show your commitment to sustainable change!

Check out more: http://www.justwater.com. Let me know if you have any questions/concerns!

Thanks!

Kyle Krueger

Having trouble parking on Tesoro Creek Road "The Hill"???

We are getting prepared to start a FREE parking shuttle service from the LDS building parking lot on the corner of Oso Parkway and Antonio Parkway to Tesoro High School. The shuttle bus will pick up students at 6:30am, 7:00am, and 7:30am and take them to Tesoro. The shuttle coming back will have pick up times at 12:50pm, 3:00pm, and 3:30pm. ALL juniors who participated in the Junior Parking Lottery and did not get a parking space are guaranteed a parking space in the LDS lot. We are still waiting on the official start date, so there will be more information to come.

If you are interested in this option please complete the THS STUDENT SHUTTLE PARKING PASS FORM (CLICK HERE) and turn it in to Mrs. Merchant in the main office by Friday, September 22nd. If you have any questions ask Mrs. Turpel at ddturpel@capousd.org.

Science Olympiad is arguably the biggest science related competition in the United States. Every year, students from all four grades can try out and become a member of our team to participate in 3-4 out of 23 events at UC Irvine on 2/10/2018.

We will be having two stages to tryouts:

1. Rules quizzes. Each student will study the rules for 4 events that they are interested in. These simple quizzes will take place in room 911 on 9/18 (Monday) during lunch. The rules for all of the events are attached.

2. Content quizzes. Of the four events chosen, each student will choose to take the content quiz for three events. These quizzes will take place during the first week of October, and the specific dates are TBD.

To help you choose what events you like, go to the link below and find "2018 Division C Events"

https://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

To get updates from us about the club and tryouts, please email titanscienceolympiad@gmail.com or text @tesoroso to 81010.

If you have any questions, feel free to email or text us.

Lastly, we encourage anyone who is interested in the sciences to try out. The events cover a diverse scope of science, and you will benefit from participating. As the most prestigious science related team event nationwide, Science Olympiad can potentially make you stand out among other applicants during college apps. The team is not made up of smart people, it is made up of hard working ones. Everyone, from seniors to freshmen, has an equal chance of becoming a team member.

Everyone that is interested in trying out for Tesoro's 2017-2018 Science Olympiad team should attend the first meeting on September 30th in Room 911 (Mr. Ritscher's room).

Yes, it is early in the year and club rush hasn't even happened yet, but to compete with other schools in our regionals, we need an early start. That is why we highly recommend that you attend this meeting if you are mildly interested.

Over the past few years, our team has attained a 21st, 15th, 11th, and 13th place at our regional competition. We need bright students who are willing to dedicate large portions of their own free time to help us improve our record and drive us to states.

Every year, Science Olympiad offers a large variety of events that students have the opportunity to participate in. Including engineering (construction, robotics, electronics), computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences.

See the attached flyer from last year!

If you are reading this late, sign up by emailing your name and grade to titanscienceolympiad@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can add yourself on Remind by texting @tesoroso to 81010.
